Got costume?

It is my son's first Halloween and I have been scouring the area for a bear costume.
It has not been an easy task. Infact it has as Peppa Pig would say impossible.  Yes, very impossible.  I looked online and I could have ordered it but, I wouldn't get it in time to try it on and take back if I needed to. What if it didn't fit?
We went to several different stops; Wal-Mart, Target, Halloween superstore, and Party City.  Nothing. Oh tons of foxes and skunks. There were zebras too. There were no bears though. Really?

We went to Target and I found zebra pjs. They aee footie pjs. There was my costume. A fluffy zebra. I can't wait!

Halloween fun : a city block party.

Been a bit since I last wrote on the blogosphere. The teeny part of the internet that the blogosphere is. A bit has happened since I last wrote, er typed. For instance my little man got his second tooth and has been cranky ever since. He is cutting more I have no doubt. He caught his first cold. That was awful took my family of 3 two weeks to get over it. Poor little man does not like the little snot plunger sucker thing. He acted as though I was killing him. Or worse I was pulling his baby brains out through his nose. I, little sir am not an Egyptian embalmer. The nose plunger sucker of doom is getting the boogers and snot out, you will be fine.
Then there was my niece's 17th birthday. Holy crap. And I made the parental boo boo, I forgot his pack n' play. He was OK, for the most part. Who am I kidding he was miserable. I had no idea what was wrong, my sister said he was out of character. He is usually calm and giggly. He was none of that. She then said he is in pain, give that baby Tylenol. I numbed his mouth with oragel and gave him Tylenol. He went from unhappy to giggly and happy. He was ok, love that kid and my sister.
Saturday we went to our town's block party. It was a Halloween party, not a "fall festival". Full of kids trick or treating booths, costume contests, adults trying to be 8 again, and confusion. For instance, a lady drove the wrong way on a one way street that was blocked off and full of little ones. She didn't know that the road was blocked, but we all wondered how she got on the wrong side. The party was great to watch, people watch. People of Walmart people watching. My son had no clue of what was going on, he had a spoon and was happy.  We walked around and then wanted to walk through the merchants, they had things blocked so we stood in line. Everyone was standing in line and we thought it was for the merchants. Stood in that line for over an hour and a bottle. We got to the end and saw that the line was for a damn photo booth. Yes, we stood in line for a photo booth. We were all irritated. The baby was tired, so we left. It was fun to be out and see how many people were out. The kids were really creative with their costumes and a lot were handmade. My fave? A boy that made a creeper from Minecraft costume. I didn't dress up my boy that night, he was really itchy. But he will dress up for Halloween. Tuesday pumpkin carving, until then!

Fall fun! Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies!

I have a can of pumpkin and did  not want pie. So I went to the food network app and found  pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. It has everything you could want pumpkin and chocolate.  Done! I had to make them and make them I did!
I followed the recipe but one thing Florida people; you may have to use baking powder with the soda. I made them with the recommended baking soda and poof. They are delish but had a cakelike consistency.  My hubby didn't complain but we will see when they are cold.
So here is the recipe:
3 cups of flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar packed
1 cup unsalted butter (2sticks)
2 eggs
1tsp vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2teaspoon of baking soda  fl people use equal parts soda and powder. 1 tsp soda and 1 tsp of powder.
1 can of pumpkin
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of ginger
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1  bag semi sweet choc chips.

Preheat oven to 350
In one bowl cream butter and sugar. Then add vanilla and pumpkin. Next add the eggs. I didn't use a mixer, don't have one. Then in a separate bowl sift flour and spices. Add the pumpkin mixture a bit at a time to the dry and stir. Once that has been mixed together stir in chocolate chips.
On a parchment lined cookie sheet spoon a tablespoon full of batter on the sheet. Cookies will bake for 10-15minutes.  Or until cookies are brown.
They are soft cookies.
Can make up to 60 cookies. Courtesy of Food Network.

Finally, I put pics in the scrapbook.

I am a scrapbooking mama, normally.  But I haven't had any time to do so lately. Today I made time. I had too and you know what? It felt good to work on it. I feel great about it. I got some of little man's ultra sounds in the book. And it made me think about my pregnancy and how small he was when he was born. The drama during my pregnancy and all of that. It made me realize even more I may not want to go through that again. My little man may be it for me. Who can say for sure. But as of right now I am happy with my family of three.
When I tell people I may not have anymore kids they treat me like I am being SELFISH. What? Really?
"Your son wont have a friend.  He will be lonely! "
Who are these people to tell me stuff like that. Why do they get to determine how many kids I do or don't have?  Why is it when someone says they only want one child they are pegged as selfish human beings? Perhaps they can not afford more than one. Maybe healthwise they can not handle it. Or it could be their preference.  It doesn't make it wrong.
What got me talking about it today is my scrapbooking reminded me of that. It made me happy about my little man, but also reminded me of defending myself to everyone.
Yeah, I have to defend myself about kids. I am not the only one. People defend their decision to have many or none at all. People have to defend their not wanting to get married. Why do we have to go through this and why should we care what other's say?

The Muppet Show - Vincent Price, getting ready for Halloween!

I have been going shopping with little man, trying to get things ready for my baking coming up. I also have been on the hunt for  an adult bear costume. Not the skimpy one, I want to be the mama bear. Cute right?
and speaking of bears; it came back. My morning walk was ruined by it's black fuzzy self.
I am getting really into Halloween this year. It is little man's first Halloween!  In honor of it I thought about this episode of the muppets! Enjoy!!!

The Muppet Show S05e09 - Debbie Harry love this show!

Oh muppets how I love you! I wish they would play the old shows on TV again. I would love watching them. I grew up with the muppets and yes, little man will grow up with them too! He loves the Muppet show!

Peppa Pig Compilation, A cute show for little ones

This is my little man's favorite show, Peppa Pig. This cute little cartoon follows the adventures of little Peppa Pig,her brother George, and her friends. While a lot of kids cartoons can get annoying, this show is charming and cute. I find that I can watch many of these with my baby and not feel like I want to stab myself with a spoon. This show was first discovered by us via an app for android. And we now just Youtube it. Peppa is a great show for kids and my 7 month old loves this show. In fact he tries to mimic George growling with his dinosaur.  Want a new show for your kids but not sure what to watch? Parents get Peppa.

Oh great pumpkin I burnt the cookies!

Ever do something that you just feel you shouldn't? Either because of "mom brain" or over exhaustion, you say;put something in the oven when you shouldn't. And before you all think baby wait a second. It is a batch of cookies. My quick cooking "PMS" cookies to be exact. I went to foolishly take a shower. You can imagine what happened, my hubby found some really crispy cookies.
Why was I so dense? No sleep. My little man caught his daddy's cold. He was up and down all night. Now while my husband and I do not co sleep with him;we do make exceptions. For instance when he is not doing well. And with my heart condition it is worse with no sleep. So for circumstances like a bad cold, he can sleep with us. He slept well and we could snuggle him when he needed it. Around 5:30am we just stayed up.
It was a great time trying to use that torturous sucker. You know the one. That bulbous sucker you shove up his little nose. Suck out the snot and done. Easy, right? Hell no!!! He hates that thing! It is like we are trying to take his brains. Which we aren't, but he doesn't act like he knows that.
I mean he is only 7 months.
My little Great Pumpkin watching, Peppa Pig loving, and  my baby bear is now 7 months. How amazing. He made a milestone today too, he is now officially a crawler!!! Cats beware, he is even more mobile. I love it and can't wait for more!

Cat bath oh fun!!

I have 2 kitties and  they are indoor cats. But even indoor cats need regular baths. It controls dander and smelly kitties. They may not like it, but they are used to it. Bath time consists of one cat getting bathed in the sink and one in the tub. This is due to size difference, Isis is small and Osiris is a big boy. I mean big boy, 25pounds of cat. Yeah, he is big. While she is a whopping 8 pounds when wet. Tiny tiny fat girl.

Her bath was relatively easy, except my little man thought I was hurting her. She howls when getting bathed. He cried until I put her back on the floor and she ran off. I made it out no scratches or bites. Then it was big boy's turn. He was fun to get into the tub. He turns into a giant piece of plywood and locks every muscle. You have to fold him to get him in the tub. Little man was in his crib at this time, Osiris is pathetically dramatic during his baths. He used to like them, but as he has gotten older he now is not fond of the water. That is unless he puts himself in it.

He gives me tiny meows and sad face as I scrub him down with soap. Ohhhh so sad. Poor kitty is abused and smells of coconuts. After the bath he hides under his towel for 45 mins. Then he runs around the house like a psychotic prisoner who just escaped. Someone feels good, huh? He plays for a bit and then settles down on the couch. Both cats didn't talk to me for the rest of the day.

Today it is the dog's turn.

Quick cook cookies.

I love cookies especially this time of year. And even more when plagued with Pms. I named these pms cookies.  Because when plagued with this patience goes out the window.
What you will need:
1 1/4 cup of all purpose flour.
1/2 sugar
1/2 cup packed Brown sugar
A pinch of salt I used kosher
1/8tsp of baking soda
1/8tsp of baking powder
1egg.
1tablespoon of vanilla
1 stick of unsalted butter
Chocolate chips
In a large bowl combine sugars, egg, butter, and vanilla.  Then add chocolates followed by salt and baku ng powder and soda.
Finally add flour and drop a spoonful of batter on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Make small drops of the batter.  Bake in a 375 degree oven until cookie is shiny on top. About 5-10 mins. Done.

I read a book, finally!

I read a book, yes a whole book. It was not a long book but I am thrilled that I actually got to read it! I read Brandi from Real Housewives of Beverlyhills book. Her autobiography. I read it solely after little man went to bed at night because lord knows I can not do it during daylight hours. In fact it is hard for me to read anything without hubby going "Whatcha readin? Why?" and needing my attention. Well some of the time. He is pretty good usually.

The book is a look into her controversial divorce of her husband and his affair with Lee Anne Rymes. It definitely gives you a look as to why the way she is. Yes, it is understandable why she did things the way she did. But, some of the book was repeating. I went into this book expecting to see more of her perspective on The Real Housewives. From her point of view the whole thing between her and Kyle. But, it was more about her divorce which I will say was entertaining to read about.

IF you like the Real Housewives franchise, then pick this book up from your local library. It is worth a gander.

How Alton Brown saved my kitchen knives.

Lately I have been on a Good Eats Marathon binge as well as Martha Stewart shows. I have been watching them due to the show being fun and very scientific. While watching one show I realized something; my knives. I had been abusing my knives. Wow.This one particular episode was about knives and their care. I was storing them improperly. Meaning, that putting my knives in the dishwasher was a no no. I had no idea.

Knives do not like being jiggled around the dishwasher and the harshness of it. It breaks the handles and the blades do not like the harsh dishwasher chemicals. Whoops! You should always wash and dry the knives by hand. This was something I rarely did, well it takes 2 weeks to break a habit. I will never dishwasher my blades again. EVER! Thank you Mr Alton Brown for sparing my knives from a fate worse than anything, broken and dull chopping.

I am now currently waiting for my hubby to do the whole "I told you so". He told me this kind of thing months ago.....

Perfecting my cookie recipe.

Today I am trying to refigure my cookie recipe for double chocolate chip cookies. Here in Florida I have noticed cookies go flat or they become cakey mound so dry that you could use them instead of a paper towel. Yuck.
What I have learned recently via Pinterest is using both baking soda and powder. It works. My recipe for this cookie is below.
You will need :
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8tsp salt.
3/4 cup sugar
3/4cup Brown sugar packed.
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2sticks of room temperature unsalted butter
White and milk chocolate chips
Preheat your oven to 375degree.
In a bowl mix the butter, sugars, eggs, and vanilla into a fluffy creamy texture. Next add the baking soda and powder. Add salt stir. Add flour one cup at a time. Mixing well then add the chips. About half a bag of each.
Place a drop of cookie batter on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Cook on center rack for 10 mins or cookies are lightly browned.

TGIF

Happy Happy Friday people!

Today is an alright day. I started to clean out more boxes and I started make my Christmas cards. Yes,it is early. But, if I don't start now I wont get them done in time. And side note SCREW YOU PANDORA! Darn thing keeps skipping. While I was getting things going with my Cricut machine, I went to stamp some cute penguins. I thought, "thought", I had some good ink. Yeah, it was as dry as the desert. So my project is now on hault. On to the next project! Today me and the boy will make some cookies. I am going to play around with some recipes I know. Here in Fl, cookies do not set up like they do up in Missouri. So, I have to play around with my recipes to get things just right.
Today it will be sugar cookies and double chocolate chip cookies. Will post more later. Now it is time to feed little man.
