Tick or treat!

Last night was my little man's first Halloween! He was such a cute bear,at least while it lasted. He was adorable and I loved his costume. One thing I really noticed is the baby costumes are made too hot! Come on people, not everyone lives in Massachusetts.  Some people, for instance live in Florida; where it is hot as hell. Last night he was a sweaty mess. So, I took the costume off and left the hat on. I felt guilty trick or treating with him like that. So, I let my nieces go to the houses while my hubby stayed in view of them. He slept anyways. He was a tired little man.
There were so many cute costumes and I noticed a huge trend. Kids went all out this year. They wore the most compelling and creative costumes. Grotesque and cute alike. There was an abundance of wonderfully home designed costumes I was taken back by it. There was even a kid on stilts walking around. Cool right?
Now while there was an abundance of kids out, there was not however many houses treating this year. Money is tight and I get it, but do not leave the porch light on. I had to witness so many sad faces last night because of that. Really? What happened to Halloween edicate? You were a kid once, surely you remember.

Now on to something really compelling. Baby costumes. So, costume designers why do you make the costumes so damned hot? Sorry for the swear but really my baby was dying in it. He was miserable. And like I said above, why do you make them that way? I think retailer purchasers need to think about that. Um a baby in FL does not need the thermal protection that a baby in Illinois needs.So, parents if they don't have time to make a costume have to buy a sweat suit for their kid. I'm sorry little man that mommy tortured you in that bear suit.Poor baby.

Halloween fun : a city block party.

Been a bit since I last wrote on the blogosphere. The teeny part of the internet that the blogosphere is. A bit has happened since I last wrote, er typed. For instance my little man got his second tooth and has been cranky ever since. He is cutting more I have no doubt. He caught his first cold. That was awful took my family of 3 two weeks to get over it. Poor little man does not like the little snot plunger sucker thing. He acted as though I was killing him. Or worse I was pulling his baby brains out through his nose. I, little sir am not an Egyptian embalmer. The nose plunger sucker of doom is getting the boogers and snot out, you will be fine.
Then there was my niece's 17th birthday. Holy crap. And I made the parental boo boo, I forgot his pack n' play. He was OK, for the most part. Who am I kidding he was miserable. I had no idea what was wrong, my sister said he was out of character. He is usually calm and giggly. He was none of that. She then said he is in pain, give that baby Tylenol. I numbed his mouth with oragel and gave him Tylenol. He went from unhappy to giggly and happy. He was ok, love that kid and my sister.
Saturday we went to our town's block party. It was a Halloween party, not a "fall festival". Full of kids trick or treating booths,costume contests, adults trying to be 8 again,and confusion. For instance, a lady drove the wrong way on a one way street that was blocked off and full of little ones. She didn't know that the road was blocked, but we all wondered how she got on the wrong side. The party was great to watch, people watch. People of Walmart people watching. My son had no clue of what was going on, he had a spoon and was happy.  We walked around and then wanted to walk through the merchants, they had things blocked so we stood in line. Everyone was standing in line and we thought it was for the merchants. Stood in that line for over an hour and a bottle. We got to the end and saw that the line was for a damn photo booth. Yes, we stood in line for a photo booth. We were all irritated. The baby was tired, so we left. It was fun to be out and see how many people were out. The kids were really creative with their costumes and a lot were handmade. My fave? A boy that made a creeper from Minecraft costume. I didn't dress up my boy that night, he was really itchy. But he will dress up for Halloween. Tuesday pumpkin carving, until then!

Fall fun: bat chandelier

I love fall fun and Halloween. I love making crafts for every holiday.  What got me in the mood was watching a Martha Stewart DVD. I looked at my dining room chandelier and thought "it needs bats." And bats it will have.I used my Cricut cutter and the October 31st  cartridge. If you don't have that it is ok, you can hand cut the bats. I also did this with my 6 month old on my lap. Yes, it can be done and we had fun!!

What you will need is:

Black cardstock

Red Ribbon, black, or clear string

Zots or staples

Scissors

You want to cut out several different sizes to hang around the chandelier. For Cricut I used sizes 4,3 1/2,3, 2, and 1 1/2

Cut a ribbon 10-11 inches long. for each bat. 

Place a zot on the back of the bat, and place the ribbon on top of the bat.

You should cut the ribbon at angles to fit on the bat, place the ribbon on the zots.

Cricut does make it easy to do, but like I said you don't have to have one

I free handed a bat, using extra paper and scissors

Fold the paper in half and start to cut out a bat like shape.

When you open the bat it will look like this.

To make the center, make a larger bat and then attach a ribbon to the bottom. then zot a baby bat on the string, using a zot or staple. To hang from the chandelier I used the free handed bat and poked a hole. I strung it on a ribbon connecting the one side to the batty string . Then I attached a second ribbon to the top bat I free handed and tired it to the chandelier.
What you see is the end result at the top. I wanna add spiders to it. But doing this with my baby bear it would be hard to do.
